Ruby Beach.
Coming up on about a year since my youngest daughter and I wandered down to Ruby Beach. The weather was exactly what you’d expect in late December — wind and rain — but we still found moments of respite and unexpected beauty during that brief 24-hour jaunt to the coast. My daughter is named Ruby, and this beach was one of the inspirations for her name, so it felt especially meaningful to share that place with her. She had never been there before, It was wonderful to share this time with her on the Washington coast.
Over the past year and a half I’ve transitioned into analog photography, embracing the slower, tactile process. All of these images were captured on a Mamiya 645 1000s using a variety of film stocks. The black-and-white images were home-developed, while the color work was developed by Moody’s Film Lab — they do consistently excellent work.
